In recognition of the Wadden Sea’s global importance as largest unbroken tidal flats system in the world, the 15th Trilateral Governmental Conference on the Protection of the Wadden Sea was held in Esbjerg, Denmark, this week.

In the beginning of May, the midterm meeting of the German-Dutch Wadden Sea Research Programme in Wilhelmshaven provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the scientific progress of the six funded Projects and share knowledge and utilisation products.

The meeting included sessions in Husum, Germany, and Thyborøn, Denmark, alongside visits to the pilot sites at the Halligen islands and the Lodbjerg–Nymindegab area.

On Hallig Langeneß, scientists, site managers, policy experts, and bird enthusiasts discussed how to preserve key tidal flat ecosystems along the flyway in the face of climate change.
