Experience the Wadden Sea World Heritage at the ITB travel fair in Berlin
Whether you like food, games, virtual reality or sand in your shoes – during the ITB on 10-11 March 2018, travel enthusiasts can explore the Wadden Sea World Heritage up close directly on Berlin’s fair grounds. Partnering with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the Wadden Sea World Heritage maintains two booths at the world’s largest travel fair. Booth 230 and 216 in hall 4.1 offer a taste of nature and inform about sustainable travel options. Focus of all activities is the Wadden Sea World Heritage.
“The main purpose of the private visitor days is to inspire people to visit your destination”, says Jens Laurits Hansen, Communications Officer at the Danish Wadden Sea National Park. “I believe that we will easily achieve that. We have prepared an exciting programme with activities directed at Wadden Sea lovers as well as at those, who have never been to the area. Whether halligen, islands, or mainland: we present the World Heritage site as an entity and reach beyond national borders with our offers of sustainable and nature travel.”
Especially for children there is a lot to discover at the booths: they can experience the World Heritage site with "hands-on activities". Dig for and determine beach finds with the BeachExplorer App. Get up close to a seal and twist at the "Watt'n Twister". Show creativity at a t-shirt painting competition or test their knowledge of the Wadden Sea habitat.
Adults will not miss out either and can explore and taste culinary delights from the regions such as cheese and sausage specialties, jams and mustard and honeys. Fanø’s "Oyster King", Jesper Voss, tells stories about the Danish Wadden Sea and its oysters. Visitors can get inspiration on holiday offers, embark on a virtual journey and send their Wadden Sea greetings directly from the ITB with the help of a green screen. A break from the fair crowds is also taken care of: a square-meter-large pool with real Wadden Sea beach sand is ready to test and unwind in. There is a chance to win small direct prizes as well as trips to the World Heritage site.
